Rankings That Matter

January 2019

For the past 13 years, Washington Monthly’s Annual College Guide and Rankings have rated four-year institutions on the extent to which they contribute to the well-
being of the country. Washington Monthly bills it as the answer to the U.S. News and World Report ranking, which they describe as relying “on crude and easily manipulated measures of wealth, exclusivity, and prestige to evaluate schools.” Beloit continues to rise on Washington Monthly’s scale, landing this year at No. 38 overall on a list of 228 liberal arts colleges that contribute to the public good. That’s up from No. 95 out of 240 schools in 2017.
