PlacesBy Ginny Burch Emery’61

This Joy! Books

Libertyville, Ill., 2011

Don’t let the title fool you; the poems in Places are not purely geographical. Emery takes her readers many places in this collection, from physical places of natural beauty to places in time to places of special discovery about the self and the world.

The poems in this collection were written over the last 30 years. As such, they cover a wide span of tones and topics. A lyrical celebration of nature might lead into a short poem about the joy of human touch, finally followed by a free-verse interpretation of a Biblical story.

“These are not easy poems,” writes Tom Adams in the forward. “They invite you in, challenge you, and reward you for your journey.”
