Max Zapf-Geller’14, a cultural anthropology major and studio art minor, was commissioned to give the interior of the C-Haus a brightly colored facelift this spring. Continuing a long tradition of student artwork in the campus pub, the graffiti artist created a mural on the large wall just inside the entryway.

Zapf-Geller'14 - C-Haus SignZapf-Geller has been doing graffiti art on the side for about six years and has several commissioned murals to his credit in his hometown of Portland, Ore. At Beloit, he envisions a “free wall” on campus someday—a legal graffiti wall that anyone could use to create art in their chosen medium.

From the time Zapf-Geller arrived at the C-Haus with his spray paint cans until he signed his name on the completed mural, college videographer Ben Hartzell’10 was there capturing the action. “Seeing the mural come together was like watching a calligrapher at work,” Hartzell says.

The time-lapse video is posted on Beloit’s YouTube channel at www.beloit.edu.
