The arrival of spring temperatures coincided with the return of the Beloit Relays, held on Karris Track & Field the weekend of April 26-27 for the first time since 1979. Beloit’s team enjoyed its time in the sun, with the men finishing second in the signature team event, the relay, and the women in fourth.
The Buccaneers set four Karris Track & Field records over the two-day event, and one school record also fell.
Felicia Carlson’14 won twice, taking the 100m and 200m and breaking the Karris record in both events. She also broke a 2010 record set by Tanishka Armbrister’10 in the 200m, running a :26.14 to top Armbrister’s :26.33. Carlson followed up her Relays performance a couple of weeks later by becoming the first Beloit student-athlete since 2007 to earn a spot at the NCAA D-III Outdoor Track & Field Championships when she ran a :12.05 100-meter dash at a home meet.
Also setting facility marks at the Relays were Karen Jones’15 in the 3,000m steeplechase and the women’s 4x100m relay team of Carlson, Rachel Monroe’15, Nadia Hecker-O’Brien’15, and Angie Earley’16.
Joe Skurski’14 won the 10,000m, and the men’s 4x200m relay team of Mat Kahl’13, Matthew Kreiser’16, Tyler Coleman’15, and Peter Siess’14 also crossed the finish line first.
St. Ambrose University won both ends of the team race.
