Honoring Alumni

During Reunion Weekend, the Alumni Association recognizes a select group of Beloiters for their overall achievements, outstanding service, and loyalty to the college. Recipients are nominated by fellow Beloiters and chosen by the Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Distinguished Service Citations

William Boyd’63 has more than 50 years experience as an executive leader, entrepreneur, and private investor. Today, he serves as chairman of the board of Agility Recovery Solutions, a leading provider of business continuity and disaster recovery services, located in Charlotte, N.C. Boyd, who joined the college’s board of trustees in 2012, has also chaired or served on the boards of leading companies, including Iverify, Broadcast International, and ScentAir. In 2001, he was named the regional Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Thomas Dickinson, III’73 spent more than 30 years in service to his country through work in the communications technology field for the federal government. He also served as the president of the Arlington Historical Society and on the board of directors for the Arlington Heritage Alliance and remains active in local history and preservation issues in Arlington County and northern Virginia. He holds two master’s degrees: a master of science in telecommunications policy from George Washington University and a master of arts in international studies from Georgetown University.

John Hailer’83, an esteemed leader in the financial sector, is a sought-after source on cable news networks and in print media. He is president and chief executive officer of Natixis Global Asset Management, where he is responsible for overseeing the business of the firm’s affiliates in Asia and the Americas. He is also a philanthropist, expanding NGAM’s charitable partnerships and serving on the boards of organizations, including the Boston Public Library. A former Beloit College trustee, Hailer received the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus Good Guys Award in 2012 and was honored by a homeless shelter in 2010.

Debra Hass’88, the principal of the Chicago-based Serendipity Consulting firm, has almost 20 years of professional and volunteer experience in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors. She serves as chair of the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights, housed at the University of Chicago Law School, and teaches at the University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration. She volunteers at her church and in Chicago neighborhood schools, and she is involved in education and labor issues. Hass holds a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Chicago.

Young Alumni Award

Tori Key’03 has spent most of the last 10 years in Washington, D.C. After she earned her master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison La Follette School of Public Affairs, she became a Capital City Fellow in Washington, D.C., a program that places recent graduate degree recipients in the public service sector. She then took a project management position with Unisys, an information technology company, where she served such clients as the Federal Aviation Administration. Currently, she is a manager at Grant Thornton LLP, a leading accounting and consulting firm located in Alexandria, Va.

Alumni Award

Jerry Gustafson’63 taught economics and entrepreneurship at Beloit from 1967 to 2013, during which time he held the Coleman Chair in Entrepreneurship for 25 years and mentored, taught, and advised generations of students. Among his many honors are Teacher of the Year, a Congressional Fellowship from the American Political Science Association, and two Fulbright Fellowships to teach in Turkey. The founding director of the Center for Entrepreneurship in Liberal Education at Beloit, he earned a Ph.D. in political economy from Johns Hopkins University.
